Applied behaviour analysis (ABA) is the science derived from the principles of behaviourism that provides a framework for improving socially significant behaviours, such as social skills, independent living skills, communication and decreasing challenging behaviours. Applied behaviour analysis is not to be equated with a specific type of programme delivery or with a particular intervention. Rather, it is a scientific problem-solving approach and a foundation from which teaching methods and educational programmes are constructed.
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) sets a standard for what constitutes being qualified to practice behaviour analysis and has a minimum of a master’s degree. BCBA’s have extensive training and experience in designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating a wide range of programs for various support needs and populations.

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) represents the entry level position within applied behaviour analysis who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a BCBA. The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behaviour analytic services.
